art by @bunnyangelart

Mizuki Sakumoto is your normal 14 year old in Johto, eagerly awaiting her 15th birthday so she can finally get her trainers license. But when she wakes up on Prelude Beach, she’s gonna have to learn how to navigate this historic world with the Cyndaquil she was given by Professor Laventon.

This post will eventually hold links to other posts detailing information about Mizuki, from her backstory, pokemon, ect! Everything will be under the tag #mizuki’s pokemon adventures as well.

Posts

In the mean time, read about her adventures in Hisui in my fic, Moonlit Tracks in a Strange Land on AO3!

it’s been over six months and this still haunts me every single day. every night as i’m trying to fall asleep. every time i proudly look over my collection as halloween themed decor and jewellery. every time i get frustrated with the three rooms in this house dedicated to christmas decoration storage.

(i’ve never read homestuck and don’t know what the fuck this is supposed to mean, but it scares me)

I know it’s sand but I want to eat it

Good news it’s not sand!! It’s rice flour!! During deepavali, Indians make rangolis which is shown in the video!

there’s a CHANCE it’s rice flour and there’s ALSO a WAY HIGHER chance it’s sand, quartz, glitter, powdered chalk, sawdust, talcum, etc. even if it’s flour the dyes aren’t edible probably.

DO NOT EAT RANGOLI.

I’M INDIAN.

Happy Diwali! Please do not eat sand!

I have never heard of Norman Rockwell. I don’t understand anything about art. But this picture shook me and caused a storm of emotions. It is called Breaking Home Ties, 1954

The boy is going to a Uni and wearing his best outfit; the Uni sticker is on his luggage, even his tie and his socks are the colours of the sticker. He is excited and impatient. The father - obviously a farmer, is sitting at the worn farm truck with a flag and a storm lamp, because their place is so small the train won’t normally stop there, so the father will need to “catch” the train and signal with the light and the flag for it to stop.

His son will never come back to the farm.

I think I understand why this picture sold at 15,4 million dollars in 2006.

Great paintings by Norman Rockwell of everyday Americana.

Norman Rockwell specialized in exactly this, OP. You can look at almost all of his paintings and find a story in it. Some are sweet, some are poignant, some just show family. They are all stories, and they all have story woven into every single detail.

And because it is my favorite, this is “Shiner”

image

Rockwell’s mentor was A.C. Leyendecker best known for his illustrations of the Arrow Collar shirt man. The model was Leyendecker’s lover. Rockwell was a pallbearer at Leyendecker’s funeral.

Rockwell’s paintings also dealt quite a bit with social issues as he got older and after the Saturday Evening Post made him remove a Black person from an image bc Black people “could only depicted in service jobs”.

As a result he left the Post & created (among other works) The Problem We All Live With and Murder in Mississippi.

OP post “Breaking Home Ties”.

Look at the dog.

Oh boy…

For those who don’t know the problem we all live with :

image

It’s also very fun to add that during WW2 when the government put out a call to commission artists to create a poster to inspire woman to fill in service roles and feed the war effort, Normal Rockwell was one of the artists who entered. The famous picture of Rosie the Riveter is known to every USAmerican student, and known throughout the world over. But what’s not as commonly known was Rockwell’s submission, which was denied by the US government for portraying the wrong kind of American woman and not something that would appeal to their femininity. Basically, it fucks too hard and the government got scared. But Rockwell was no such coward to give a woman a sandwich and a strap

Felt that it’s important to share videos like this too.

The world wants us to forget that they are people.

People who dance and play and smile just like you and I.

And it’s important to share things like this, to remind them the world that they are human.

Color has been disappearing from the world.

A new research group used machine learning to track color changes in common materials and items, below is their findings for all color changes over time, they used 7000+ items from the 1800s to now to determine color changes in the most common items.

image

Below are the colors of cars by year, notice how the majority of cars are grey, white, or black compared to twenty years ago.

image

These aren’t data points, but they are comparisons between the ‘modern’ homes of the 70s and 80s compared to the modern homes of today.

image
image

Carpets have equally had the same treatment of grey added to them! The most common color of carpet is now grey or beige.

image
image

Even locations that used to scream with color for decades have now modernized to becoming boring minimalist (and I love minimalism) personality-less locations.

image
image

The world is becoming colorless, why?

source paper

you can look at any folk culture around the world, past or present, and find the use of the entire color spectrum. humans are drawn to color, it holds emotional symbolism but it also reflects the land we live off of. I consider it like a celebration of life and our place in it

image
image
image

the problem is that we aren’t actually allowed to belong to the places we live. houses and entire towns are shells meant to be as plain as possible for the next renter, buyer, or investor. the more generic it is, the more consumers it can be sold to. And when you have a country that’s biggest population doesn’t have a distinct sense of cultural identity it will be reflected and mass produced without much complaint

image

people getting joy from the minimalist gray aesthetic is not the same as the estrangement this country is making between people and place, one of the most fundamental relationships humans need to survive (and be happy while doing it)

Films depict middle ages as devoid of color but it’s the other way around.

When I was buying my house, people were telling me not to paint it this or that color because it would be harder to sell later. Like, I haven’t even bough the house and you’re already telling me to sell it! I’m buying a house because I need a place to live! I want to live here until I die or manage to move to Europe! We are not supposed to actually own anything anymore. Not our houses or cars or furniture. We are supposed to be perpetually replacing these things, paying more each time around, until we break and die and our bones are the color of the walls around us.

I think the universe wants her to marry steve. Sorry to his fiancée.

I like how it takes 4 highly improbable coincidences for her to say “okay now it gets weird”.

I think the only solution is for them to accept that they need to be roommates now. Steve’s fiance can still have him, but clearly they are meant to live together. It can be two families in one house.

Nobody bullies Ahiru on Rue’s watch: Part 1

Part 2

Also nobody messes with Mother’s Dress!

I remember having this idea way back then that the royal fashion of the season was very white+pastels+soft blues so Ahiru walking in in her scarlet gown just grabbed all the attention. Some of it was good, some not so much, and stuff came of it, and i made a comic about that XD

@aampharros your legacy lives on
